In which I complain about ganim again

Somewhere in one of my first posts, I mentioned how much I don't get along with school systems. This has been true about every school system I myself have ever been apart of, and it is looking more and more true for the school systems I am a part of as a parent.
We are trying to get our kid into gan next year. Now one of the nice things about Israel is that - religious education is all over the place, relatively cheap, and in the right areas, in agreement with my ideas about religion and observance.
A couple days ago, we received the booklet listing the ganim in the area that we can register our child for. And lo and behold, there are no religious ganim in walking distance! Except one, which is part of a semi-private school system, which would be great for her, if we could get in.
So we are trying to get in. We went to the intro evening tonight, and it was interesting. The fact that we have to apply, and may not get accepted (ie, may quite easily be REJECTED), makes me want to run far away, fast. But we went, and it looks good.
But then they mention that it doesn't matter where you live. They have 6 ganim all over the city, and we may not get into the one in our neighborhood! Imagine that, if we actually got in (!!!) but not to the one in walking distance?
Its a little frustrating. We only have one car, so being able to walk our child to gan is a real boon. I suppose we could find someone to carpool with, or Ben could take a cab, or the bus with Eden. I really feel this need to get into this gan - Ben, of course is less worried about it. If we don't - do we limit ourselves to what we can walk to, or do we limit ourselves to religious gans?
Grrr.

You can say that again. Wait - I will. Right now.
